As a sports blogger who isn't really into putting a lot of additional entertainment gossip and other things on this site we would like to keep this site for the sports purist. We are already working on some interesting and fun topics for next week but if you have an idea or would like to do a guest feature just hit us in the comments or email us at ballers.sports@gmail.com Since its going into a relatively slow sports weekend we thought we would just recap the week that was.

When you decide to become a blogger and write your views for others to read one thing you will soon realize is that if you don't have a network of fellow bloggers to surround you then you will soon be a thing of the past. I have began to surround myself around some very creative writers who have carved their own niche into the blogosphere. Shout out to my homie Eddie Maisonet creator of http://www.edthesportsfan.com. He shared with me the first post he wrote back in 2008 and this post is inspired by that. Keep doing your thing bro.

Shawn Kemp - Throwback Tues.
[caption id="attachment_603" align="alignleft" width="120" caption="Remember these?"]

Shawn Kemp was known as the reign man in the NBA during the early 90's. Before his career ended Kemp was a All-star and a daily highlight on sportscenter. To the young kats out there Shawn Kemp was Blake Griffin before Blake Griffin was Blake Griffin. Kemp was on yesterday's post (Old School NBA - http://wp.me/p1hrP8-9w ) and we already had him pegged for this weeks Throwback Tuesday a week ago.

Yes I know our dear football season is gone. ... And I know there is a strong possibility that there might not be football again for next year. ... Welp the silver lining is that there are still other sports going on. The violence of game day experience of football will be missed but we here at Ballers Sports have a special gift for you. To get your appetite wet for the NBA we have assembled some of our favorite NBA highlights of the past.

Ballers Sports congratulates this years class of Hall of Fame inductees. This class includes one of my favorite players of all-time, Deion Sanders who was the definition of a shut-down corner. This guy was before his time, he was in my opinion the first athlete to successfully understand the balance needed be an entertainer and an athlete. Sanders is joined by 6 other guys who enter into football immortality.

Mamma there goes that man! .. Blake Griffin is at it again. I will say this. I will give Kyle Korver credit for jumping though. I'm 32 years old and I haven't always been into to football like I am now. Probably around middle school was were the love affair began. I remember as a child my dad would boil peanuts, make sandwiches and we would sneak them into Bucs games. The first Super Bowl that I can remember was when Doug Williams led the Redskins over the Broncos. Since then, I have compiled a top 5 list of my favorite Super Bowls. Check it out.

Fact: There will be some people who will not be rooting for the Steelers to win the Super Bowl because of the fact that they don't like Ben Roethlisberger. Many times our "fandem" is a result of how we view athletes for what they have done off the field. It's a fine line but when it comes to sports you should always know this ... It's never just a game.

Cutler Tough
Let it be said ... I will never question another mans toughness. Especially in a sport like football. However, Jay Cutler quit on his team. Yep, I said it. Jay Cutler let his team down. Several things lead me to this conclusion.
Trent Dilfer said this on the post game show: "When doctors say you can't play you have two choices. 1) not to play and 2) to say no I'm gonna fight to the death and battle. I didn't see any fight in Cutler".
This is my point exactly. This is the NFC championship game, some teams NEVER make it here and you are just gonna sit there on the sidelines with your hoodie on? .. C'mon son. If you can walk, you can throw. That defense played too hard against that stellar Green Bay offense for Cutler not to be out there. Again, I wasn't going to say anything but once I started seeing former athletes call out Cutler on twitter I became more comfortable in assessment.
Derrick Brooks tweeted: @Dbrooks55 -"Lovie Smith job on the line and this Cutler guy sitting, at least let me see you limp, now Collins got hurt look on his face."
Deion Sanders tweeted: @DeionSanders -" I'm telling u in the playoffs u must drag me off the field. All the medicine in pro lockerooms this dude comes out! I apologize bear fans!"
I could go on and on and I'm not gonna just crap on Cutler, he helped get his team to the Championship game. Let me end by saying this. Every athlete who desires greatness has a moment and that moment can be either really good or really bad.
Today was Cutler's moment.

Championship Weekend - I Got Your Winners
[caption id="attachment_415" align="alignleft" width="150" caption="SB XLV - Who's going"]
When the season began 32 teams had their sights set on hosting the Lombardi trophy in Dallas and becoming world champs. This Sunday we take one step closer to finding out who those final two teams will be. Last week I recouped from my dreadful 0-4 wildcard weekend and went 3-1 so ya boy is feeling kinda good. This week I've got to go 2-0 and then finish the year strong by picking your Super Bowl winner. Lets go!

*Que Music* - Don't call it a comeback, I been here for years, Rockin my peers and puttin suckas in fear. Makin the tears rain down like a MON-soon." - Todd James
I've been playing the game of golf for going on 3 years now and I usually shoot my best rounds when I"m wearing my all red golf shirt. Go figure. I don't know if it's a mental thing or it's just my imagination but if you have ever played the game of golf you know that your success depends on your ability to focus 100% on every single stroke. With that being said, Tiger Woods tweeted the following this morning:

Greatest Sports Rants
Due to the greatness of the Bart Scott post game interview we here at Ballers Sport got to wondering about our favorite sports rants of all time. We've reached out to you via facebook and twitter and have managed to narrow the list down to 10. When you see the list, understand there is no way that we can rank them in any type of order because they all pertain a small piece of greatness.
In no order here is our top 10:

I would be doing a disservice to this blog if I didn't post the interview heard round the world. Yes I'm talking about Bart "I'm-angry-and-ready-to-get-in-the-ring" Scott. This postgame was EPIC! I think that I've watched it at least once a day since Sunday and I laugh, every single time.
Don't get it twisted, I love the guys passion and how he plays the game and if word got back to him that I said something about him, I'd have to pack my stuff up and move to Canada.
The best part of the video ? ... Yep, at the end where he looks like he wants to fight Sal Palontonio, looks him in the eye WWE style and says .... "Can't Wait". I love it!!

Seahawks & Pats Lights Out
[caption id="attachment_281" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Mike Tomlin on his way to another Super Bowl ???"]
[/caption]
Well Falcons and Ravens fans, they say misery loves company and if that is true make room on the couch for the Seahawks and Patriots fans because they will not be playing in Dallas. Can we clearly say now that being a #1 seed and having a bye is not what it's cracked up to be? .. I mean really, if you look at the numbers, teams that earned the first round bye only win 50% of the time. That's hardly an advantage.

The Buc Starts Here
From ESPN ...
[caption id="attachment_267" align="alignleft" width="131" caption="Bucs hired Raheem Morris at the age of 32"]

ESPN is doing a series on content of character in honor of Black History month and celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. They did a profile on Bucs coach Raheem Morris and his journey from Irvington, NJ to head coach in the NFL. The original air of this video clip was sometime last week but its such an inspirational piece that I decided to add it to my blog for those who haven't seen it. Yes this may be a homer post, being that I'm a Bucs fan but the message and story of Raheem Morris should inspire most.

Birds Fall from Playoffs
[caption id="attachment_256" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="A-Rod could do no wrong in Atlanta"]
[/caption]
Whoa!! Did y'all see the story about them birds falling from the sky? .. Well, maybe we should have taken it as a prophetic sign because two more teams with bird mascots are knocked out of the playoffs (Ravens, Falcons). The Ravens-Steelers game, or should I say Steelers - Ravens game lived up to all the hype and I believe we will not see a better game from here on out. The physicality, the hate, hard nose defense and last minute heroics - I mean what more can you ask for?
As for the Falcons- Packers game, or should I say the Packers game, the Falcons fans are going to go to sleep and dream about Aaron Rodgers. He went into the Georgia dome screaming with a spear and ready to kill and thats how you have to beat a team like Atlanta at home. Rodgers could do no wrong against a pourus Atlanta defense. To quote A-Rod "It was just one of those nights".
Congrats to the Steelers and Packers ... on to the next round.

Ballers 2011 NBA All-Stars
Yes ladies and gentlemen it is almost time again for the annual NBA All-Star festivities which will be held in Los Angeles. We got to thinking and we asked ourselves, why not do a blog about the All-Stars that we voted for? After careful deliberation we came up with 10 starters that we at Ballers Sports voted for. You know what they say, many or called but the chosen are 10. Here is our list.

[caption id="attachment_178" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="The Florida-Georgia rivalry is one of my favorites"]

This weekend the Steelers and Ravens will go into battle and it has me thinking a lot about sports rivalries. The thing about sports rivalries is, it's all about where you're from. Growing up in Florida it was all about Florida vs Florida State. The sport could be basket weaving but as long as it was a Gator vs a Seminole hate was involved.

Dear AI
[caption id="attachment_53" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="AI at G'town where it all began"]
So word on the street is AI is about to call it quits. I wrote this last year but I thought i would repost. This is for all my AI fans.
In the beginning ...
It was the year 1994 and as a Freshman in High School I instantly became a fan with #3 for the Georgetown Hoyas. As a lifelong Hoyas fan I was drawn to them because "I liked their colors".

The Mike Vick Experience

You all remember the commercial with the kid riding the Vick rollercoaster. From the moment Mike got to this city he could do absolutely no wrong. ... unfortunately.

SEC Bias - The Drive for Five
[caption id="attachment_67" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Cam Newton is gonna put in work!"]
[/caption]
I wrote an article last year entitled "SEC Bias" in which I was beating my chest in that teams from the SEC hold the last 4 BCS Championships. Welp ... This year what do ya know, a SEC team is going for their 5th consecutive title. Those who know me know that I'm a Florida Gators fan all day and its all about that Gators chop. However, I am southern boy born and bred and I got to let the world know when it comes to football in south there is nothing else that tops it. ... Nothing!
In the south Saturdays are for football, Sundays are for God and if you ask southerners which is more important, you might not like the answer. There is just something different about football "round these parts". Kids are born to hate Auburn, love Alabama and vice-versa. The southern rivalries go deep but behind the hatred is a respect for each other that few will admit. So tonight I'm gonna be pulling for Auburn, but best believe when they play Florida next year, .. It's on!
WAR EAGLE - Keep it in the family boys.

The southern rivalries go deep but behind the hatred is a respect for each other that few will admit. So tonight I'm gonna be pulling for Auburn, but best believe when they play Florida next year, .. It's on!

"... The party's over. They say that all good things must end, call it a night the party's oveeerrrrr."
Shoutout and Rest in Peace to the greatness that is Don Meredith
Well congrats on making it to the playoffs .. NOW GO HOME! hahahah ... The only good thing about your team not making the playoffs is that you can hate on all the teams that make it and get bounced. Yep I did terrible on my picks but at least I didn't get TRUCKED like Tracy Porter of the Saints. Like the homie Bomani Jones says, BEATEMDOWN!!!!!

Another weekend in the books, who will be the casualties of next weeks playoffs? Will your team be the next to go fishing?
...
Heres a question I want to know. Are you ok with your team being 2nd place at the end? Or is it all or nothing? Vote & Comment.

When you think about the history of sports and all that you know it to be and I told you to give me 4 athletes for your own Mount Rushmore, could you do it? A while back we had a discussion about this on my radio show and this is actually one of the hardest questions to answer. Here are the rules; any era, any athlete but you only get four?
